EGYPT, THE UNITED STATES, AND THE FALSE BOOGEYMAN OF THE “MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD”

Reuters
(Asia Times)
The unrest in Egypt continues to evolve, as President Obama finally embraces (barely) “regime change” and President/dictator Mubarak promises he’ll leave in September, hardly a viable conclusion to the protests that have rocked the largest country in the Arab world. With the protests continuing, the question of leadership — who takes over after Mubarak? — becomes paramount. But in the United States, this question has been discussed with fear and frightening predictions of an “Islamist” takeover of Egypt. The prime target of the neo-conservative conspiracy theories has been the Muslim Brotherhood, the only large-scale opposition group to Mubarak that currently exists. While many in American politics make comparisons to the mullahs in Iran and bizarre accusations that they are somehow a neo-fascist front group (?), the truth on the Muslim Brotherhood, unsurprisingly, is far less apocalyptic.
THE FULL RISKS OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED “FRANKEN-FOOD” ARE UNKNOWN, BUT THE THREAT TO ORGANIC FARMERS IS ALL-TOO REAL.
(The Atlantic)
The fallout from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s decision to deregulate genetically modified alfalfa will likely hit organic farmers hard, and have impacts on ordinary Americans that are still undetermined. After intense lobbying from the agri-business lobby Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack reversed his earlier position on GM food and issued a directive allowing GM alfalfa into the nation’s food supply, an important decision since alfalfa is a key forage food for cows and other commercially-raised animals. The impacts on the people that will consume this “franken-food” in greater quantities than ever are concerning enough, but the most visceral threat posed by the government’s move is to organic farmers. The worry is that the GM alfalfa will cross-pollinate with their organic crops, causing a loss of the “organic” label and wreaking havoc with organic food supplies across the country.
HOUSE REPUBLICANS TO THE EPA: “STOP SAVING THE WORLD!”
(AP)
Emboldened Republicans on Capitol Hill flex the muscle of their new majority in the House by proposing legislation that would cripple the EPA’s ability to regulate greenhouse gases, rolling back relatively tame new directives from the Obama administration that aimed to cut carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to climate change. The GOP legislation would also eliminate the EPA’s authority to regulate emissions in the future. It’s another step in the Republican agenda of taking on White House policies and Democratic legislative victories by “repeal and replace”; heavy on the “repeal,” “replace” being non-existent to this point.
IOWA LEGISLATURE PAVES WAY FOR CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT BANNING ANY LEGAL ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF SAME-SEX PARTNERSHIPS
(Radio Iowa)
Iowa has become the hottest battleground in the nationwide fight for gay rights as conservative lawmakers in the state continue to react strongly to the state Supreme Court’s 2009 decision legalize same-sex marriage. On Tuesday the Iowa House voted to advance a constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage, civil unions and domestic partnerships. Opponents of the legislation point out that Iowa’s proposed law would be among the most draconian targeting gays and lesbians in the United States, depriving same-sex couples of any right to a legally recognized partnership. The 59 Republicans and 3 Democrats that voted in favor of the amendment say that they are unsure whether the “right” for gay partnerships “exists.”

Upton and Inhofe are typical anti science Republicans that still don’t believe in evolution either.Just like cigarette smoking they can always find a few scientists to go against what is commonly held true by most of the scientific community. Really they just want to protect corporate profits.
Yeah, by all means necessary, we wouldn’t want the terrible EPA to protect our environment. Much better to let big business over-pollute and just weasel out of the consequences.
DFPerry! atl! You guys must know each other, did you graduate together from Imbecile University?
See, a big issue here is the impropriety of allowing unelected government bureaucrats to impose their will on our society, and our economy, when elected officials aren’t willing to do so. For the last two years Democrats controlled the White House, dominated the House of Representatives, and had a nearly filibuster-proof Senate. And were unwilling and unable to produce any meaningful Climate Legislation.
Now, of course, the fraud of Global Warming Alarmism is being increasingly exposed. What with climate scientists coming out of the woodwork to distance themselves from climate alarmism, and the embarrassing spectacle of the East Anglia emails, and the obvious failure and futility of Kyoto, and the increasing refusal of developing industrial giants like China and India (They are leaving the U.S. in the dust in Science!) to even consider participating in the Climate Legislation fraud, and the phenomenon of the Crazed Sex Poodle and the Al Gore Effect.
Not to mention the weather. And the fact that the Climate on Planet Earth is always changing, with the multiple Ice Ages and all.
Who appointed roly-poly Lisa Jackson Economy Czar? Why should she dictate economic and industrial policy for the whole country?
Upton and Infofe are right, and if they didn’t speak up against the EPA fraud, there are lots of other legislators, including a few more intelligent Democrats, that would.
