Diane Johnstone, critic of the 1999 NATO action which “rescued” the victims of government repression and destroyed the country in the process, foresees ominous parallels with the current situation in Libya. Now, as then, supporters of such intervention are turning themselves into a pretzel trying to justify a violation of international law as not a violation of international law. Now, as then, the “violence” from one side of civil conflict is being ignored at the expense of emphasizing that of the government side.

A native of Lebanon, she retails a story of terrorization by Muslims in both her home country and in America, and has attracted numerous followers through the Act!America website and organization, which has been supported as well by the likes of Pat Robertson and Ralph Reed. Critics say her demonization of Muslims only complicates the problem of Muslim extremism, but this has hardly dampened the enthusiasm of her supporters.
