RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT: DOES THIS “HUMANITARIAN” RESPONSIBILITY OF WORLD COMMUNITY COVER THE PROTECTION OF AFRICAN MIGRANTS IN LIBYA FROM SUMMARY EXECUTION BY LIBYAN REBELS?
(Black Agenda Report)
While the “world” scrambles by its military operations to protect Libyan civilians even as it kills them by these operations, this same world is turning a blind eye to the rebels’ violent scapegoating of black migrant workers as “responsible” for Gaddafi attacks. The nearby country of Chad, many of whose civilians have gone to work in Libya, makes a formal request that its citizens be protected in Libya by “humanitarian” world forces.

MEANWHILE, BACK IN HAITI: CHRIS FLOYD RAISES THE CURTAIN ON ANOTHER PERFORMANCE OF “EMPIRE BURLESQUE.”
(Empire Burlesque — Chris Floyd)
As the world is focused on the steps and mis-steps of the Obama administration in the current crisis in Libya, Obama and Secretary of State Clinton proceed apace on their agenda of denying Haiti the opportunity to have truly democratic elections. They have succeeded, after failing to pressure South Africa to prevent the return of the last democratically elected President of Haiti, Juan Aristides, from exile in that country, in so thoroughly manipulating the candidates in the presidential election that 90% of Haitians refrained from voting, and there is a certainty that one of one right-wing puppets of U.S. policy will be selected when and if counts in the protracted “run-off” election are ever completed.

JOSEPH McCARTHY—ER, DARRELL ISSA—HOLDS CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS DESIGNED TO CURB THE POWER OF AMERICAN LABOR UNIONS.
(In These Times)
In an “unprecedented” move, the GOP chairman of the Government Oversight Committee decides that his committee must “oversee” a collective bargaining agreement between the U.S. Postal Service and postal workers. Even though the agreement is anything but “worker friendly” in its provisions for workers to take wage cuts, Issa believes the agreement is TOO friendly since it hurts the bottom line of USPS profit. A labor writer compares this to McCarthy-era hearings designed to tar labor with the charge of being “communist-infiltrated.

FATE OF WISCONSIN’S ANTI-LABOR LAW MAY HINGE ON RESULTS OF RAZOR-THIN MARGIN IN A RACE FOR STATE SUPREME COURT JUSTICE.
(Guardian UK)
The court, by 4-3 vote, had upheld important provisions of bill backed by Governor Scott Walker to deny collective bargaining rights to state workers. In an extraordinarily expensive and contentious “retention” election for judges, a “liberal-leaning” opponent of the incumbent (one of the “4″) holds a small majority of votes, and Walker as much as concedes defeat by saying the election was skewed by “liberal” votes in Madison.

OPINION: FLORIDA BUSINESS INTERESTS GOT WHAT THEY PAID FOR, A LEGISLATURE WHICH IS PROVIDING A DREAM OF “DE-REGULATION” OF THEIR ACTIVITIES.
(Miami Herald)
Carl Hiaasen surveys a litany of measures enacted and expected by the state legislature and finds that, across a wide range of businesses from telemarketers to Florida Power and Light Company, well-heeled businesses generous with their contributes to legislative campaigns have turned Tallahassee’s powerhouses with, quite literally, the best legislature that money can buy, comparing them to the prostitution of sex for money, with apologies offered to the more honorable prostitutes.

Quote of the day…
The Kloppenburg victory is stunning. Six weeks ago, sitting Judge David Prosser was a shoo-in and the challenge by Assistant Attorney General Kloppenburg was a snooze fest. But something happened on the way to the high court. A governor, who was elected to create jobs, took office and quickly moved to disenfranchise voters and kneecap unions so they could no longer be a viable force in state elections. The raw power grab sparked a spontaneous uprising, the likes of which this state has never seen, and the Supreme Court race was the next vehicle for people to have their voices heard.
Mary Bottari, on a Supreme Court election in Wisconsin that threatens to de-rail the juggernaut of anti-union political action in the state.
