IN THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY, WEARING A TURBAN CAN GET YOU MURDERED AS AN ARAB TERRORIST.

(Arizona Republic)

A Phoenix area man, a Sikh from India, describes the atmosphere in America as the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 bombings approaches. He describes the experience of himself and members of his family in being suspected as being “terrorists” because they, like Muslims, wore turbans. Most traumatically his brother, especially fearful of anti-Muslim feelings in the community, was himself murdered in his store in what was first described as a robbery but turned out to be a “hate crime.”

THE SECOND MONDAY IN NOVEMBER SHOULD BE RENAMED “CORPORATION DAY.”

(Global Research)

So says Paul Craig Rogers in a Labor Day article describing the subordination of the interest of working people to that of the economic elite in America. The rapid “de-industrializing” of the U.S. proceeds apace as manufacturing jobs continue to be out-sourced (because the best corporate profits are to be found abroad) and as the only area of even reasonable employment prospects is that of “nontradeable” (exportable) services. The U.S. government does its best to disguise this fact by its manipulation of unemployment and consumer price measures to make the situation seem less unbearable for average Americans than it actually is.

THINGS ABOUT THE LIBYAN REVOLUTION YOU WON’T HEAR ABOUT ON BBC, ASSOCIATED PRESS OR NEW YORK TIMES.

(Axis of Logic)

As these mainstream news media as well as political leaders of the U.S., France and Britain fall over themselves in praise of the “humanitarian” triumph of the rebels, a reporter for an alternative news media, AxisOfLogic, paints a very different picture of the revolution from her own harrowing experience. She describes a Libya in which there are constant death threats and frequent executions of those threats against anyone, including black Africans, who show any sign of sympathy for the “fallen” Gaddafi regime—and also a broader public support for the “hated” Gaddafi than these media would suggest.

“THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITY SINCE THE BUILDING OF THE TRANS-CONTINENTAL RAILROAD.

(Sacramento Bee)

Mayor of Sacramento commits this hyperbole as he unveils his plan to keep the NBA franchise Kings in the city, as its owners threaten to leave unless they get a new arena. Other cities in the area like Anaheim, licking their chops over possible landing of the franchise in their cities, are seemingly eager to re-locate the “railroad.”

WILL FLORIDA’S CRACKDOWN ON PILL MILLS DRIVE PHARMACIES IN THE STATE OUT OF BUSINESS?

(Orlando Sentinel)

To the contrary, says an Orlando Sentinel article, citing a DEA report that there has has been an upsurge of applications for new pharmacies in the state since the crackdown began. The suggestion is that “rogue doctors” and entrepreneurs are being attracted to the increasing prices associated with the crackdown, and half of all new pharmacy applications in the whole country are being filed in Florida.

Quote of the day…

Two years ago, Petraeus appeared to take a somewhat skeptical view of drone strikes in Pakistan. In a secret assessment as CENTCOM commander on May 27, 2009, which was leaked to the Washington Post, Petraeus warned that drone strikes were fueling anti-U.S. sentiments in Pakistan.

Now, however, Petraeus’s personal view of the drone war may no longer be relevant. The CIA’s institutional interests in continuing the drone war may have become so commanding that no director could afford to override those interests on the basis of his own analysis of how the drone strikes affect U.S. interests.

Gareth Porter, as General David Petraeus assumes leadership of the CIA.

  2. I fear religion but I don’t fear Islam more or less than any other one.

And, in truth, I don’t really fear religion in general. It’s just that in the hands of someone determined to apply it to nefarious purpose, it has great power. If there were something else equally powerful, I’m certain I’d fear it equally.

  3. Arizona has criminalized “being brown.” Arizona allows anyone and everyone to carry as many guns and as powerful a gun as they want. Arizona is where congressional representatives of the “wrong” party are shot in public. No surprise Arizonans shoot to kill when they see a turban.
