LEADING PHYSICIST, LONG A CLIMATE CHANGE DENIER, CHANGES HIS TUNE AFTER DOING A STUDY FUNDED BY GLOBAL WARMING DENIER ORGANIZATION.

(AP)

Richard Muller, biting the hand that fed him, concludes that those claiming significant global warming are indeed right, that the average temperature of the earth has increased by 1.6 degrees since the 1950′s. His turnabout is said to have been motivated by revelations of the scandal of “Climategate” hacking of climatologists’ e-mails in Britain. Muller, writing in the “skeptic-friendly” Wall Street Journal, is not yet fully convinced of the “human” source of the warming nor the dire threat of environmental consequences from this warming about which other scientists are warning.

BUSINESS VULTURES ARE SWOOPING OVER A POST-GADDAFI LIBYA.

(New York Times)

New York Times article surveys the landscape of Western business interests salivating in anticipation of new opportunities opened up by the “revolution” in Libya. With all that infrastructure destroyed in the process of NATO helping to liberate the people from the “tyrant” Gadaffi—and with plenty of oil to pay for the reconstruction—business consulting firms and even the British Defense Minister are advising business people to “pack their bags” for Tripoli.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY IN PITTSBURGH LEARNING A HARD LESSON: SOMETIMES YOU JUST CAN’T GIVE A HOUSE AWAY.

(Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

The international Christian mission to put deserving people into “simple decent” homes often runs afoul of the realities of building construction, as it requires more in rehabilitating costs than HH is able to pay from its relatively meager resources. This is dramatized in Pittsburgh by a family which wants to give away a simple decent home and finds no takers among local charities.

WHERE IN AMERICA ARE RICHER AND POORER PEOPLE MOST NEARLY EQUAL IN INCOME? THINK UTAH.

(Salt Lake City Tribune)

Report on “income inequality” released last week has local experts trying to explain the high degree of disparity in southeastern states and the lower inequality levels in western states. Utah ranks at or near the top of measures of “income equality” as people interviewed by Salt Lake Tribune try to explain that fact as well. One big factor seems to be the relatively small number of minority people in Utah, given the fact that low income tends to be concentrated among minorities. Another is the relatively homogeneou wage structure associated with industries in the state.

WILD HOGS WOULDN’T KEEP ME OFF THAT GOLF COURSE!

(WFTV)

Well, in Melbourne FL, perhaps they would. Wild boars are “terrorising” a golf course neighborhood, using their razor-sharp snouts to root for grubworm delicacies in golf course saw grass. Trappers have already removed 17 of the unwanted animals and expect to round up at least another half dozen more of them.

Quote of the day…

We say no to big banks. We say no to corporate executives making millions of dollars a year. We say no to student debt, we say no to evictions. We say no to global capitalism. We say no to the prison industrial complex. We say no to racism, we say no to class exploitation, we say no to homophobia, we say no to transphobia, we say no to ableism. We say no to military occupation. We say no to war.

Angela Davis, addressing Occupy Wall Street gathering at Washington Square Park, New York City.

  1. So it took 1.6 billion temperature records To confirm that the pictures of vast swaths of open Arctic water were in fact not photoshopped. Who would have thought?

The diversionists will never give up – at some point you just have to say “You can make up all the alleged issues you want – what’s your explanation for the large scale changes were are seeing every day?

  2. And this is how The Republican Party and Big Business work. When their position on global warming is proved to be false, they will ignore the evidence and, when pressed, declare this evidence to be just more liberal bias and error. In other words, when their patronage and money is involved, they will take any lying position possible in order to keep their patronage funding and profits. And, of course, the gullible faithful will believe everything they are told by their Republican heros.

  3. The Repubs just hadn’t figured out a way to make huge profits from global warming…this new advocacy indicates that they have…

  4. Ironically, a bunch of anti-global warming people fund a biased study, and they still find that the planet is warming. He tried to be a sellout, and he still came to the opposite conclusion. Pretty impressive. I guess denying evolution got old, so the ignorant had to move onto denying global warming.

  5. Well, what do the deniers have to say about this? Still denying? Still keeping their heads in the sand while we destroy the planet?

  6. The Deniers are becoming even more angry and frustrated. The truth is in the data. The BEST data even sees warming accelerating. Weather events are becoming increasingly more extreme and dangerous- just as the climate scientists predicted.
