While some analysts argue that market speculators are artificially manipulating prices to their benefit, U.S. Energy Information Administrator Howard Gruenspecht calls this a “minority view.” The real major factor in that rise, he says, is the effect of U.S. and E.U. sanctions against Iranian oil which both creates price-increasing shortages and punishes Iran for a crime (nuclear arms development) that it did not commit.

White journalist Jordan Flaherty, who has written on police misbehavior in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, was shocked to find himself cited in a report of the New York Police Department for a speech he gave at a film festival in New Orleans. For him the experience denotes the reality, experienced by multi-racial Occupy protesters, that the whole country is becoming “black” in the eyes of police.
NOTE TO NPR: MAINE SENATOR OLYMPIA SNOWE’S DECISION NOT TO SEEK RE-ELECTION MAY BE ABOUT MORE THAN HER DISGUST OVER THE “DECLINE OF CIVILITY” IN CONGRESS.
Commentators for National Public Radio and other “liberal” media put on her decision the spin that it reflects the “crumbling center” in Washington as bitterly partisan division results from the “extremists” of both left and right—as if there were more than a whiff of left wing “extremism” in Congress. Less to NPR’s “centrist” orientation but more realistically, her decision may have been based on the involvement of herself and husband former Maine Governor John McKernan in a for-profit education company, Educational Management Corporation, which is under investigation by the Justice Department for allegedly fraudulent use of U.S. funds.

Severe threat to world food shortage results from ravages on bee populations of pesticides that keep destructive insects but also vital pollen-distributing honeybees away from food crops. The Environmental “Protection” Agency, it is asserted in an accompanying video clip, has failed to protect against the ravages of these pesticides because the EPA is “corrupted” by the chemical industry. (Isn’t what the beleagured whistle-blowers of the agency have been saying?)
